We are working with partner agencies in response to a major incident in Hartlepool. Please see below statement from EDF and follow their advice...

“An offsite nuclear emergency was declared at Hartlepool Power Station today. This means radiation has been detected beyond the site boundary. Because of this everyone in the Detailed Emergency Planning Zone, the pre-defined area closest to the power station which does not contain any homes, is advised to go inside, shut all doors and windows and take pre-issued stable iodine tablets as directed in accompanying leaflets.

Cleveland Fire Brigade were alerted to an incident today (14/05/2025) at 09:16am at Hartlepool Power Station. We currently have eight fire engines on scene.

We would advise people to avoid the area to allow our crews to work safely. Also, if you live nearby, keep all windows and doors closed. We’ll provide further updates as soon as we can.
